HM Revenue and Customs has opened tax-free childcare to parents whose youngest child is under nine years old. The service, which has been available since April 2017, enables working parents to apply for 30 hours free childcare and tax-free childcare—receiving up to £2,000 of support per child per year or £4,000 for disabled children to help with childcare costs. The scheme is open to all eligible families with children under 12 on 14 February 2018, ensuring parents will be able to apply for tax-free childcare before the end of this financial year. Parents, including the self-employed, can find applications for tax-free childcare, and access the government’s childcare calculator online at Childcare Choices.
