On 2 February 2018 the Civil Partnerships, Marriages and Deaths (Registration Etc.) Bill received an unopposed second reading. The Bill, sponsored by Tim Loughton, the former children minister, makes provision for: opposite sex couples to enter a civil partnership; the registration of the names of the mother of each party to a marriage or civil partnership; the registration of stillborn deaths; the power for coroners to investigate stillborn deaths.
